2. Facilities for International Students

We have collaborated with a premium local boarding facility for students who want to pursue education with GIIS in Singapore. Established in 1886 as a boarding school, Oldham Hall is a modern 400-bed facility today, providing accommodation and pastoral care to more than 250 students studying in local and international schools. The boarding has a structured environment with roll calls, study time, curfews to help patrons cultivate independence, as well as self-discipline and time management.

Students can choose between 2-, 3- or 4-bedded rooms with air-conditioning, WiFi, as well as personal study desk and wardrobe. The boarding comes with community spaces like study rooms, common rooms, pantries, dining hall and services such as laundry, in-house catering are provided.
Recreational facilities such as gym, table tennis, games area, music room, and sports facilities such as the sports hall, tennis courts, futsal court and swimming pool are also available for the students. They are rented for use from a nearby school campus.

Student residents of the hostel can avail the services of the school bus for pick up and drop off from school. The school bus will pick up and drop off students at their respective hostels every morning and evening.

There is in-hostel dining available. Breakfast & dinner are provided on weekdays and students can buy lunch at school. For weekends & holidays, the hostel provides all meals.

The school provides Indian and Western vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Students can pre-order their food through kiosks in the school, or online. All dietary requirements are considered including food allergies.

Students can avail special facilities like sports facilities, gym, pantry, dining hall, laundry services for a comfortable home away from home experience.
There are programmes and activities that support holistic character development (e.g. leadership, life skills, values) to maximise the boarders’ potential with a mandatory study period between 7.30pm and 9.30pm from Monday to Thursday.

There is a close partnership with schools, guardians and parents for holistic care and development. At Oldham, there is an intentional effort to connect boarders with their family even though they are away from home.
Boarders are also encouraged to make friends and bond across cultures with a community of international students from more than 15 countries. This fosters development of social skills and civic-mindedness.

Oldham Hall accepts male and female boarders between 12 and 18 years of age in their facility. Boarders need to be eligible to study/studying in recognised schools in Singapore.

AMENITIES

Medical Insurance

Students living in the hostel will be covered under additional medical insurance.

In case of GCS students, the medical insurance will be covered by the school.

In case of international students, insurance will be bought by the individuals themselves. ‍

Visa

Visa proceedings will be initiated for students who wish to get an international education at GIIS in Singapore and require boarding facilities.

GIIS will provide all assistance to students arriving in Singapore for studying and will have to apply for a Student Pass with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore.

GIIS will facilitate the students in submitting the application & follow up for approval.

In the current Singapore immigration law there is no provision for a Parent/Guardian Visa to accompany the student.

In case of rejection of Student Pass by ICA for any reason, GIIS will refund the registration charge for school and Hostel after deducting administrative charges for processing.

Restrictions

There are strict rules and regulations in place for students using the hostel facilities. Students are expected to adhere to the timings. Any change will have to be notified to the school authorities beforehand.

Visits

Parents/Guardians can come to visit their children, but will have to make their own living arrangements. Parents/Guardians are not allowed to stay with the students in the hostel.

Bank Account

Each student coming to Singapore will have to open a bank account with any of the local banks. This ensures that parents/guardians will be able to transfer funds for the students’ payments and expenses directly from a local account.

This also ensures that the students will have funds to take care of their daily expenses.

Starting a bank account in Singapore is an easy process which can be done over the counter or online. Details of the relevant documents required for the account opening are available on the bank’s website. GIIS will facilitate in terms of letter required.
