The stage that comes after preschool is called primary education. It provides students with a solid foundation by inculcating them with the three Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic, besides languages, humanities and science.
The right age for enrolling at a primary school in Abu Dhabi is between 6 to 9 years of age. Primary school education is compulsory in Abu Dhabi and lasts for a period of 6 years. It consists of grades 1 to 5
Primary education is important because it’s in this age when there is a rapid mental and physical growth taking place.
● Primary education creates a foundation for learning.
● It helps in the cognitive, physical, and emotional development of students.
● It awakens curiosity in their young minds and instils in young children the importance of learning and understanding the world around them.
The primary school curricula consists of:
● English
● Any two languages chosen from French/Arabic/Hindi
● Science
● Social Science
● Mathematics
● Information Technology or Artificial Intelligence
The primary school authorities ensure that there is a complete involvement of the parents in the education, growth and progress of their children. A customized portal—myGIIS—has been created as a platform between the school and the parents. Regular emails are also sent to the parents regarding the development of their wards. Every doubt, every query of the parents is responded to by the school authorities through these emails. Parents can also access the school website and the school’s Facebook Page to stay well-informed about the various school activities.
The primary school curricula offered at GIIS are:
● Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for Grades 1-6
The age criteria for primary school admissions is 6 to 9 years.
There are varied assessments for the primary students:
● For grades 1 and 2, students are given four assessments which are in the form of tests.
● For grades 3 and 4, there are half yearly and yearly assessments in the months of September and March, respectively. They have two more tests called periodic tests held in the months of May and January.
● Apart from these, there are a series of small tests conducted regularly after the introduction of new concepts. These are given in the form of quizzes and group projects.
GIIS offers some of the best scholarships to students. For the primary level the scholarships offered are:
1. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Global Skills Scholarship
2. The Zayed Gandhi Merit-cum-Means Scholarship
3. The 9 Gems Holistic Development Scholarship
The Spiral Teaching method follows the structure of a spiral that rises higher and goes deeper along with the grades. The students are imparted a deeper knowledge of the concepts they were taught in earlier grades. It gives them an excellent learning experience and an opportunity to comprehend and visualise the theories at a deeper level.
At GIIS Abu Dhabi, school admissions are open all through the year. All the students who are interested in securing an admission here can apply from the website. Once they receive the application forms along with supporting documents and registration fees, the admission team members begin reviewing the applicants. Parents are informed about their child’s admission within a period of four weeks and above.
The students who wish to get an admission at GIIS are required to take an assessment before the registration. Students can also take the test during their campus visit with the help of admission counselors. These counselors assess the performance of the students based on which they advise the parents on the perfect curricula for their wards.
The campus tours offer parents an opportunity to meet with the current students and learn more about their life at the school campus.
At GIIS, the primary sch/ol fee structure depends on the grade and the curricula selected by students. The parents are informed about the fees in advance by the admission team members. All the necessary details regarding the school fee structure are provided on the Fee and Admissions Page of the school website
The following documents are needed during the admission process:
● Birth certificate
● Proof of residential address
● Child’s recent passport size photograph
● Medical certificate
Inter-campus transfer provisions are available for students at GIIS campus. Alongwith the admission application, transfer students are required to submit a transfer certificate. The transfer certificate can be found on the school admission page of the website.
