To make education as affordable as possible for students, especially low-income students, the government and other organizations provide scholarships for school and university education. The cost of education is always increasing, which means that academically meritorious students from low-income families are forced to drop out of school and college. Some of these students give up on their dreams of pursuing higher education, even though they are academically talented.

According to research, only about 70 percent of all students complete school in India, and graduation from colleges and universities has a similar dropout pattern. Luckily, there are different scholarships out there for deserving students:

1. GIIS Global Citizen Scholarship

The Global Schools Foundation provides the GIIS Global Citizen Scholarship to deserving students to offer them a learning experience and stepping stone towards higher education. This scholarship is offered to meritorious students from the region. This GIIS scholarship funds the education cost along with boarding expenses at the GSF campus for two years.

Students who want to complete Grade 11 and 12 in any of the GIIS campuses can avail this scholarship. The Global Citizen Scholarship is not valid for students in Grade 11 and 12. The applicant must be in Grade 10 when applying for the scholarship. The GIIS scholarship was founded in 2009, and about ten students are offered the scholarship every year.

About 1,000 students are shortlisted for the exam for the scholarship each year, and the scholarship is offered until the completion of the Doctor of Philosophy or PhD for the courses in social sciences and science. However, students pursuing a career in medicine and engineering can get the scholarship up to the postgraduate level.

Founded in 1999, the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana programme, also known as the KVPY programme, is coordinated by the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, also known as the IISc Bengaluru. This scholarship is great for students who want to pursue a career in scientific research.

The students found eligible for this scholarship program are offered financial assistance until the pre-PhD level. The students are shortlisted for the KVPY programme through an aptitude test, which is held across different centers in major cities across India.

4. Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students
